Martha Escobedo

Martha Escobedo has been a Spanish teacher for 30 years in the East Side Union High School District. She has received her BA and MA from San Jose State University and has been teaching AP Spanish Language & Culture and AP Spanish Literature and Culture at Mt. Pleasant High School since the beginning of her career.  She was advisor to the Latino Student Union for 25 years and a trained AVID program teacher for 10 years.

She has served as the Mt. Pleasant World Language Department Chair for 20 years and has held the position of World Language Subject Area Coordinator for East School Union High School District for 13 years where she has led and helped develop curriculum for the 7 languages taught at her district. She has led various professional developments and led district teachers in the development of a district wide World Language Summative Assessment for Spanish, French, Chinese and Vietnamese.

Martha has been an AP Spanish Reader for 20 years and read for both AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature. As a Reader she served as a Table Leader  and furthermore, was the Advisor to  the AP Spanish Literature & Culture Testing Committee for 5 years. While on the committee she contributed and edited the AP Spanish Literature and Culture handbook and created and published lessons for the College Board AP Spanish Literature and Culture Teacher Community website. She is an endorsed College Board Consultant for the Western Regional Office, as well a San Jose State Writing Project Consultant. She has presented AP Summer Institutes (APSI’s) at AP by the Sea, Bogota, Colombia, Chicago, Colorado, Dallas, Hawaii, Houston, Riverside, Silver State, Bellevue, Washington,  as well as various one-day workshops throughout the Western Regional States.
