Sandi has been in education for over 30 years. Having taught AP English Language and English Literature for 18 years in Nevada, she is now in California teaching AP Leadership online for teachers at UC Riverside Ext. She was a grader for English Language for 12 years until 2007, and again in 2009 and will be in 2010. Sandi has been a consultant since 1996 and has taught English Language, English Literature and Pre-AP Building Success workshops. Her years in Nevada saw her as a Head Reader for the State where teachers grade their own proficiency tests. Sandi has a BA degree in English from Hanover College; a Master’s degree in Secondary Reading from the University of Montana, and a doctorate from the University of Arkansas in Reading and European History. 2010 General Session Outline

Monday- Am- introduction to the week; introduction of each other; introduction to the College Board materials; looking at a/the syllabus for the course; looking at the 2010 questions to analyze the needed skills.
Pm-intro to texts that can be used in the course; integrating American Literature into the non-fiction based English Language AP course; looking at style analysis; discuss and write in form of style analysis (to use in classroom); looking at group presentations for Thursday am
Tuesday- AM- looking at annotation, multiple choice questions and beginning to look at argument; going over argument paradigms; invention, disposition, ethos, logos, pathos; discuss and write argument
PM- looking at argument question from 2010 test
Wednesday-AM- synthesis; discuss and write synthesis
PM- focusing on synthesis question from the 2010 test

Thursday-AM-looking at the whole of AP language; group presentations using Three Cups of Tea or Stones into Schools

*Time will be taken to go over some much needed grammar
